Satellite broadband

The Welsh Assembly has recently announced their commitment to residents in Wales to provide 'broadband not spot' areas with a reliable solution to broadband. A total of £2 million is available NOW on a first-come first-served basis, awarding a grant of up to £1,000 per property.

Unlike satellite TV, satellite broadband dishes receive and transmit signals simultaneously to and from space. Best suited where there is no infrastructure for Community WiFi, satellite broadband offers similar high download speed and moderate upload speeds, perfect for isolated properties that are out of reach of other networks.

As the satellites used for this system are 36 thousand kilometers from your dish, even at the speed of light, there are small delays known as ‘latency’ of around 2 seconds and are not recommended for gaming, internet phones, webcams and virtual prviate networks (VPN’s).

Monthly subscription packages are available from as little as £25 (discounted rate for successful grant applications) up to £115 depending on your bandwidth requirements.
