A long hot day on Thursday with nowhere to hide from the sun… At least the turbine kicked in every now and then and sent a gentle breeze to the cabin where I was doing some of my work for Dorrell Renewables
So… What was this install all about?
Wind turbines need to be monitored and controlled remotely which is usually done via the internet. This Endurance Turbine was not within site of the farmhouse where the internet connection is.
Usually a WiFi radio link is used from the turbine to the building with the internet connection, but this site needed a relay point as a ‘hop’ to bend the signal down a hill to the house.
This picture shows the location of the mast which would be 150mtrs above sea level and the farmhouse down a dip at around 90mtrs. Thankfully the farmer had power at an old milking palour on the brow of the hill where we chose to install the ‘hop’ equipment.
The sequence of photos below is from the turbine to a tree by the house, where it was then cabled in a trench to the office.

This is the control unit cabin at the base of the tower a few hours before the tower was erected.
The turbine can be seen in the blue circle. The photo is taken from the mast at the milking parlour acting as a ‘Hop’ for the WiFi link.
The House is obscured from the milking parlour by trees but one tree can see both the parlour and the house and was close enough to trench a cable in.
