TV for Solva properties from the top of the Gribbin

TV reception in Solva has always been a challenge. None more so than keeping the long cable runs intact!
I have found five TV aerials on the Gribbin and they all seem to have had numerous cable replacements over the years. Mainly because of rodents eating through them, storm damage where they are hung from trees over pathways and even bush fires!

From waterlogged amplifiers to cable that was something’s dinner! Many of these 100mtr + cable runs just keep failing.

The cables run under and through bushes and are then strung through the air to cross pathways.

One group of five properties lost there TV reception earlier this year so it was a perfect opportunity to install something a little more ‘Robust’

With help from two National Trust volunteers, who knew their way round the Gribbin, we headed up the hill on the only dry day this week, with all the kit.

Fighting his way through dense scrub with  heavy cable in trunking, Rellie made the main journey down the hill and emerged at the bottom with a few cuts and bruises…
With the connections all finished and housed in weatherproof enclosures, TV has been restored to these properties in time for Christmas.

With ‘Maverick’ (Our four legged helper) we dug this cable down under the path out of harms way.

Who needs a 4×4?!

Permission was sought from the land owners for access and digging of the lower path prior to commencing.
